Vietnam - Hanoi – Halong Bay  November 21-29, 2002

 

 

Halong Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in the world, with over 3000 islands spurting up out of the water.  But it is not without development, along with all sorts of billboards.    



We wanted to get out onto the bay and chartered a boat – only to find it was 70 feet long and was going with only the 4 of us, including an English speaking guide.  There were dozens of boats in the way.

How to get out?  The captain just put it in reverse and sure enough, the sea of boats parted, with a little help from his crewmates.

Halong Bay is a popular tourist spot for Vietnamese people and visitors during the summer, but we were here in the off season, so few people were out with us this day.   The cost of the boat, about 10 USD per hour, including a crew of 4.
